RHINEBECK NATIVES Vincenzo “Vinnie” Sassone and Colby Miller opened Bangers Gastropub intentionally to bring the quaint village back to its origins. Both have worked at several Rhinebeck restaurants, and they combined their accumulated local savvy to create an establishment “authentic” to the area. “The idea was to create a place where everyone can feel like a Rhinebeck local, even if they aren’t,” notes Sassone, who manages the front-of-house. Miller, the talent in the kitchen, has created a menu of updated American classics punctuated with local ingredients: Harp-battered cod fish ’n’ chips served with house-cut fries and malt vinegar; a burger made with pork belly, beef or corned beef and topped with sharp cheddar, whiskey onions and a proprietary sauce. Those familiar with the area will recognize Northwind Farms (Tivoli) as the source of the meats. Other highlights include local Scotch egg with house-made pork sausage and herb breading, and beer ’n’ cheese soup (showcasing New York aged cheddar). Meals at the casual pub can be paired with a seasonal cocktail or a brew from one of the 12 taps. Extended hours, live music on the outdoor patio and a brunch menu are coming soon.
